Troy King is a recovering politician (he was Attorney General of Alabama for six years before accepting his present musical gig) and the host of CASHback, a wild, weekly boom-chicka-booming ride through history like you have never experienced. If you thought history was dull, you have just never experienced it through the lens of Johnny Cash and his music.
Troy became a Cashaholic when he was three years old. An avid fan, while his friends were rocking out to the music of the seventies and the eighties, Troy was enjoying music from the man who paved the way for those who followed. While many of the pop music flashes inthe pans (or, as Cash himself would later describe them “has beens, would bes, never weres and hopeful stars of flickering magnitude”) burned out as quickly as they appeared, Johnny Cash remains a magnificent oak tree in American music’s garden of pansies. It was Johnny Cash’s love and reverence for the musical traditions that underpin all American music forms – blues, gospel, rock and roll, and country – that captured Troy’s imagination. The more he listened to Cash, the more he became intrigued. Soon, Troy was a musical historian, fascinated by the stories behind the people, places, events, and song and steeped in the rich history of American music. An expert on Johnny Cash, Troy was honored when Bill Miller, the curator of JohnnyCash.com and the Johnny Cash Museum and the host of Johnny Cash Radio’s flagship program invited Troy to take a seat behind the microphone and to take every Johnny Cash fan on a weekly musical odyssey through Johnny Cash’s music.
Join Troy each week and enjoy a full dose of CASHbacks! I’ll bet you won’t be able to avoid tapping your toe and singing or humming along as you learn all about the history and hi-jinks; stories, songs, and sessions; people and places; myths and, of course, music that made the Man in Black the Man. Tune in this week!
