In 2000, Legacy Recording reissued "At San Quentin" in a "complete and unedited" version - a statement which most fans knew was not correct (for one thing, the TV documentary which had been available on video tape for years included songs not found on the new reissue). Six year later, in 2006 Legacy finally released a near-complete version : Producer Bob Johnston had brought one only tape machine to San Quentin for the show. Whenever a tape ran out, a part of the show was missed while a new tape was being mounted. For the 2006 Legacy Edition of "At San Quentin" reissue producer Bob Irwin wrote that "...the incredible evening was originally captured on one-inch, eight-track tape by recording engineers Neil Wilburn and Bob Breault, manning Columbia Records' West Coast mobile recording unit. This new set showcases this historic event accurately and chronologically; the complete set of vintage masters has been painstakingly archived and reassembled in original running order. Therefore - with the exception of a few songs that fell victim to tape run-outs that evening - this edition now presents the show in tis most complete form possible." (Later that year, at Madison Square Garden, Bob Johnston similarly brought only one tape machine meaning that a number of songs were missed or recorded only partially.

The show was filmed by a British TV crew from Granada Television. The documentary was included on a DVD with the 2006 "At San Quentin - Legacy Edition". It had been commercially released on VHS in the UK in the 1990s.

Bob Wootton stated on his website that they performed "San Quentin" three times that evening. Likely the third version is among the songs which were not recorded in full.
